Fire Doors in a 686mm (27 Inch) Width
The 686mm size is an imperial 27 inch width found most often in older and period properties built before metric sizing took over. If the doors you are replacing measure 27 inches, this width lets you upgrade to a certified fire door without re-lining the opening or cutting a larger leaf down. Every door here is one of our oak fire doors in a 686mm width, an oak veneer over a dense, fire-resisting engineered core, so an older home keeps its proportions while gaining genuine fire protection.
How these doors are built
The doors in this width are supplied by established fire-door makers such as Deanta, LPD and JB Kind, and built as all real fire doors are: a fire-resisting core beneath an oak veneer, with oak lippings to the edges. The core carries the certification while the oak face provides the finish. Most are FD30, rated for up to 30 minutes; where a 60-minute door is specified, our FD60 fire doors cover that requirement.
Matching an older interior
Because 27 inch doors sit mainly in period homes, panelled and traditional designs tend to suit them best. A panelled fire door in a four or six panel layout keeps the look consistent, while our traditional fire doors carry period detailing. Glazed options are available in this width too, where a room needs borrowed light.
- Panelled designs in four and six panel layouts
- Traditional period styles for older homes
- Glazed options where a room needs more light
- Prefinished or unfinished to match existing doors
Prefinished or unfinished
These doors come both prefinished and unfinished. A prefinished door has sealed faces and is quicker to hang, though any hinge, latch and handle cut-outs expose bare oak that must be sealed as you fit. An unfinished door lets you match the tone of existing period doors, but every face and edge should be treated before use, as explained in our internal door treatments guide.
Completing the fire doorset
A fire door only performs as a complete, fitted set. It needs a suitable fire door frame or lining sized to the opening. The correct fire-rated hinges then carry the leaf, and intumescent strips and smoke seals close the gaps around the door as heat rises.
686mm (27 Inch) Fire Door FAQs
No. Like all genuine fire doors, each 686mm door has a dense, fire-resisting engineered core finished with an oak veneer and oak lippings. The core delivers the fire rating while the oak face gives the natural grain of an oak door.
686mm is 27 inches, an older imperial width. It is common in properties built before metric door sizing, which is why it is often needed for like-for-like replacement.
Modern homes are built to metric sizes, with 762mm (30 inch) the standard, so 686mm now appears mainly in period and pre-metric properties. It remains a stocked width for exactly those homes.
