Every door on this site is a wooden door made from oak, so the choice comes down to three things: the style you want, the construction of the door, and the finish it arrives in. The sections below explain each of those in turn, so you can get to the right door quickly.

What Is a Solid Oak Door?

A solid oak door is a solid wood door in the true sense, machined from oak all the way through. An oak veneer door has a thin layer of real oak bonded to a stable engineered core. Both are oak on the surface, so a new door of either kind looks much the same. The difference shows up years later. A solid oak door can be sanded back and re-treated when it picks up marks, and a veneer door cannot, because the grain sits only on the surface.

Solid oak therefore suits doors you intend to keep for decades. Oak veneer is the better choice for glazed doors and fire doors, because an engineered core offers greater dimensional stability. Our grade a solid oak doors are machined from oak throughout, and our oak veneer doors use real oak over an engineered core. Weight is part of what you are buying too. A solid oak door and an oak veneer door on a solid core are both heavier than a hollow core door, and that mass is what cuts sound between rooms. Internal Oak Doors by Style

The style sets the look of the room, and internal wooden doors come in more of them than most buyers expect. Barn doors are constructed from plank and ledge boards, the classic look for a barn conversion or an older house. Cottage doors cover a wider span than the name suggests, from plank and ledge designs through to the grooved and panelled doors that suit a newer cottage. Victorian internal doors and 1930s oak doors follow the traditional panel layouts of their period, so they sit comfortably in a house of the same age. Shaker oak doors and mexicano oak doors use the cleaner lines of a modern interior, while ledge and brace doors and rustic oak doors leave the natural grain and character of the timber on show.

Internal Oak Doors by Type

The type of door is a decision about what it has to do. 4 panel internal doors and flush doors close a room off and feel substantial to open, while oak doors with glass bring natural light into a dark hallway or a back room. Oak fire doors are manufactured and tested to hold back fire for a set period, and building regulations call for them in certain positions in a home. Internal french doors, oak sliding doors and bi-fold doors open one room into another without a swinging door taking up floor space. External Oak Doors and Front Doors

Our oak front doors are constructed for British weather, which puts two conditions on them: an external door must be treated with oil before it is hung, and it needs a porch or canopy over it. Stable doors are split across the middle so the top half can be opened on its own, and oak door frames are sold to match, so the door and the frame arrive together as a set. Prefinished or Unfinished

Every oak door is sold in one of two states, and the choice is a straightforward trade between convenience and control. Prefinished oak doors arrive already treated and can be hung
though any edge you trim to fit or cut for hardware should be sealed before fitting. Unfinished oak doors arrive raw, so you choose the oil or the wax yourself and can match the colour to the rest of the room. Sizes and Made to Measure

Standard UK door sizes fit most homes, and every product page lists the sizes and options available in stock. Older houses are the exception, because their openings have often moved over the years and no standard size fits properly. Made to measure oak doors are manufactured to your own opening, in the same styles as the standard range. When you measure, take the opening itself rather than the door hanging in it. Old doors have often been cut down, so they will give you a false reading.

Choose the ironmongery at the same time as the doors. Oak door handles, latches and oak door hinges are sold in the usual finishes, including polished chrome, satin nickel, matt black and antique brass, while oak skirting boards and architrave are matched in tone to the doors.
