A Tale of Transformation: The Belize Door Story

When the Smiths decided to renovate their Edwardian home in Bath, they wanted to maintain its period charm while introducing modern elements. They chose the Belize Unfinished Oak Internal Doors for their versatility. Working with our team, they selected a warm, honey-toned finish that beautifully complemented their home's original features. The result was a harmonious blend of old and new, with the Belize doors serving as a stunning focal point in each room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use the Belize door in a bathroom or high-humidity area?
A: While the Belize door is suitable for most internal uses, for high-humidity areas like bathrooms, we recommend applying a moisture-resistant finish. Check our bathroom doors section for more options.
Q: How do I maintain my Belize oak door?
A: Regular dusting and occasional cleaning with a slightly damp cloth is usually sufficient. Avoid harsh chemicals and excess moisture to preserve the wood's natural beauty.
Q: Do you offer matching door frames?
A: Yes, we provide a range of internal door lining sets to complement your Belize door perfectly.
Q: Can I order a fire-rated version of this door?
A: For fire-rated options, please visit our fire doors category. While the standard Belize door is not fire-rated, we offer similar styles with fire-resistant properties.
Q: What's the best way to finish an unfinished oak internal door?
A: The best finish depends on your desired look. We recommend using high-quality wood oils or varnishes designed for oak. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and test on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Maintenance

Installation

This door must be fitted with a minimum of 3 hinges. This is due to the weight of the product, which can be attributed to the high grade materials used in the construction of the door. Choosing to ignore this requirement will void your warranty.

Storage - Flat and Dry Only

As wood is a natural product it is important that it is stored correctly. We recommend that your new products are stored flat and in a dry area. We recommend that all packaging is kept on the products, or removed for inspection and then re applied for storage. Again as wood is a natural product it is susceptible to changes in each room's atmosphere and as such please be mindful of this and take care to avoid damp areas or newly plastered rooms etc.

Wooden Product Finishing

Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished (unless a pre-finished door has been ordered). As oak is a natural product, sanding and treating maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. If you have not ordered a pre-finished/treated door then we recommend that quality hardwax oils such as TreatexOsmo, or Sikkens Polyurethane Varnish are used to seal and protect the goods and to validate your warranty.

For doors to acclimatise, they should be left in the house prior to installation for at least seven days with the ambient temperature gradually increased over this period.

All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it.

Applying a stain prior to treating is known to highlight the areas where glue may have spread to the face of the door during manufacturing, particulary where veneers meet. This cannot be claimed for under warranty. A clear, hardwax oil is what should be used. If you would like to apply a stain to a door to acheive a particular finish, we would recommend purchasing a solid oak door instead.

Modern oil finishes are extremely durable and hardwearing, they are very simple to apply and fast drying. Once your appropriate finish has been applied, generally very little maintenance is required. It is always advisable to cover any scratches that may occur over time. The benefit of using hardwax oil is that this is a very simple process of re-applying the finish to the affected area with a cloth.

If you do decide to paint an unfinished oak veneer door then to comply with the door's warranty it must have an undercoat/primer and top coat which is solvent based, not water based.
