Product Information

External Solid Oak Stable Cottage Top

A traditional top for a traditional door. Our cottage top for stable doors uses very similar construction to the base with the exception of a small hole that has been deliberately left for glazing to be inserted into. By deliberately leaving this space for glazing you can choose from any range of options to match the style that best suits your house.

Available in Made to Measure sizes, fill out our contact form for more info!

The stable traditional cottage top is manufactured using the strongest mortise and tenon joints for maximum stability. Made from solid oak and 44mm thick, this beautiful stable top is the perfect addition to cottages and rustic homes.  We also supply an Oak Weatherbar to match the door, which will be required should the door be "open to the elements". Sold separately as not everyone will need one...ie if your door is situated within an enclosed porch. click here for Oak Weatherbars

Our range of external doors are made from solid oak, however we do not recommend usage in exposed areas i.e. direct rain or hot sun, therefore we recommend use in sheltered areas with a porch or canopy

Please follow these treatment and maintenance instructions to preserve the beauty and strength of the wood.

Achieve a balance between between light and privacy with the small feature window. All the style of a traditional cottage door with the benefits of the stable door style. Glazing is not supplied but we've designed these to allow you to fit a full 20mm double glazed unit for energy efficiency.

All our stable doors come as standard with a 1" rebate and as they are identical on both the front and rear faces you will be able to decide if you would like the door to open inwards or outwards.

Pair with the Solid Oak Stable Base for a unique solid oak stable door to be proud of.

Please follow these treatment and maintenance instructions to preserve the beauty and strength of the wood.

External Doors are supplied unfinished. You will need to use a treatment suitable for external doors; we recommend the Impranol range for External doors; Click here For Impranol

We also supply an Oak Weatherbar to match the door, which will be required should the door be "open to the elements". Sold separately as not everyone will need one...ie if your door is situated within an enclosed porch. Click Here For Oak Weatherbars.

Our external doors must be treated before being hung, retreated every six months and kept dry at all times through the use of a canopy or similar. For full guidelines, please visit our External Door Protection Page.

Glazing not included.

Maintenance

Internal Wooden Product Finishing

Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished (unless a pre finished / treated door has been ordered). As oak is a natural product, sanding, polishing and colouring maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. If you have not ordered a pre-finished/treated door then we recommend that quality hardwax oils such as Treatex or Osmo Oils are used to seal and protect the goods and to validate your warranty. All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it.

Modern oil finishes are extremely durable and hardwearing, they are very simple to apply and fast drying. Once your appropriate finish has been applied, generally very little maintenance is required. It is always advisable to cover any scratches that may occur over time. The benefit of using hardwax oil is that this is a very simple process of re-applying the finish to the affected area with a cloth.

External Wooden Product Finishing

Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished. As oak is a natural product, sanding, polishing and colouring maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. We recommend that quality specialist external treatment such as Impranol Oils are used to seal and protect the goods and that our external doors are protected from direct sunlight and rain by either a canopy or porch. All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it. Please follow the guide here for finishing your external door, not doing this will void your warranty. By doing so you will also comply with our terms and conditions.

Storage - Flat and Dry Only

As wood is a natural product it is important that it is stored correctly. We recommend that your new products are stored flat and in a dry area. We recommend that all packaging is kept on the products, or removed for inspection and then re applied for storage. Again as wood is a natural product it is susceptible to changes in each room's atmosphere and as such please be mindful of this and take care to avoid damp areas or newly plastered rooms etc.

Installation

This door must be fitted with a minimum of 3 hinges. This is due to the weight of the product, which can be attributed to the high grade materials used in the construction of the door. Choosing to ignore this requirement will void your warranty.
