This Bury 4 Panel Pre-Finished Oak Fire Door features 4 distinctive panels that contribute to the overall sleek but minimal design. Our classic Victorian 4 panel fire door is a stunning choice for any home, offering safety in the unlikely event of a fire of half hour protection to you and your loved ones, whilst also making a stylish addition to your decor. The raised and fielded panels within this design give this traditional internal door a great deal of character and provide greater depth to the design.
This rigorously tested product is rated FD30 which means it can withstand fire for a minimum of 30 minutes, making it an ideal choice for use as a kitchen door, both in the home and office. Due to the rules of fire testing, the material must be uniform, and as this cannot be guaranteed with solid oak wood doors. Because of this, we choose to construct our fire doors with FSC certified White American oak veneer instead of 100% solid oak so that we can secure an FD30 rating, which is the best way to guarantee safety.
This Victorian fire door is supplied prefinished ready for hanging straight out of the box. With a substantial thickness of 45mm, this stylish internal door also offers the flexibility of a 30mm trim allowance off the width of this door and off the height, in equal measures, so you can resize any of the four standard sizes to your exact requirements. Or if you’d rather receive your new fire door ready to go with your own specific measurements, we can do the hard work for you with our bespoke sizing option!
Wooden Product Finishing
Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished (unless a pre-finished door has been ordered). As oak is a natural product, sanding and treating maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. If you have not ordered a pre-finished/treated door then we recommend that quality hardwax oils such as Treatex, Osmo, or Sikkens Polyurethane Varnish are used to seal and protect the goods and to validate your warranty.
All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it.
Applying a stain prior to treating is known to highlight the areas where glue may have spread to the face of the door during manufacturing, particulary where veneers meet. This cannot be claimed for under warranty. A clear, hardwax oil is what should be used. If you would like to apply a stain to a door to acheive a particular finish, we would recommend purchasing a solid oak door instead.
Modern oil finishes are extremely durable and hardwearing, they are very simple to apply and fast drying. Once your appropriate finish has been applied, generally very little maintenance is required. It is always advisable to cover any scratches that may occur over time. The benefit of using hardwax oil is that this is a very simple process of re-applying the finish to the affected area with a cloth.
If you do decide to paint an unfinished oak veneer door then to comply with the door's warranty it must have an undercoat/primer and top coat which is solvent based, not water based.
Storage - Flat and Dry Only
As wood is a natural product it is important that it is stored correctly. We recommend that your new products are stored flat and in a dry area. We recommend that all packaging is kept on the products, or removed for inspection and then re applied for storage. Again as wood is a natural product it is susceptible to changes in each room's atmosphere and as such please be mindful of this and take care to avoid damp areas or newly plastered rooms etc.
This door must be fitted with a minimum of 3 hinges. This is due to the weight of the product, which can be attributed to the high grade materials used in the construction of the door. Choosing to ignore this requirement will void your warranty.
As the door is there for the purpose of safety you should check it regularly to make sure that it still opens and closes properly.
The gaps between the door frame and the door itself should be checked on a regular basis. If you have fitted a fire door to comply with building regulations, it is extremely important that these gaps do not increase in size to the point where they surpass the allowed maximum. Although this is rare, it can sometimes occur on a new home where the house is still settling and the various pressures on the door frame cause it to alter slightly.
Other than regularly checking gaps we advise people to cover up scratches with treatment so that the door is always protected. By using a hardwax oil, any scratches can quickly and easily be covered up.
