Product Information

This Cottage Oak 1 light glazed external door comes in a stable door design, so it’s an ideal back door solution, where pets or young children need to be kept secure. Supplied unfinished as standard for decorating on site, and pre-glazed with a toughened Leaded double glazed unit. These heavyweight external Oak doors must be stored and decorated before installation in accordance with our "Care and Maintenance of External Doors" to enhance the life of this product.

A traditionally styled cottage stable door featuring a lead double glazed window - beautifully ornate and practical at the same time.Made from engineered oak using dowel construction, the oak cottage stable door is perfect for more traditional properties. This door features raised mouldings on one side. The cottage stable door is a popular choice and totally opens up the home's exterior. The beauty of the oak can be appreciated whilst still adhering to strong and durable engineered construction.

Our range of external doors are made to withstand the elements, however we do not recommend usage in exposed areas i.e. direct rain or hot sun, therefore we recommend use in sheltered areas with a porch or canopy

Please follow these treatment and maintenance instructions to preserve the beauty and strength of the wood.

External Doors are supplied unfinished. You will need to use a treatment suitable for external doors; we recommend the Impranol range for External doors; Click here For Impranol

We also supply an Oak Weatherbar to match the door, which will be required should the door be "open to the elements". Sold separately as not everyone will need one...ie if your door is situated within an enclosed porch. Click Here For Oak Weatherbars.

Our external doors must be treated before being hung, retreated every six months and kept dry at all times through the use of a canopy or similar. For full guidelines, please visit our External Door Protection Page.

Maintenance

External Wooden Product Finishing

Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished. As oak is a natural product, sanding, polishing and colouring maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. We recommend that quality specialist external treatment such as Impranol Oils are used to seal and protect the goods and that our external doors are protected from direct sunlight and rain by either a canopy or porch. All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it. Please follow the guide here for finishing your external door, not doing this will void your warranty. By doing so you will also comply with our terms and conditions.

Modern oil finishes are extremely durable and hardwearing, they are very simple to apply and fast drying. Once your appropriate finish has been applied, generally very little maintenance is required. It is always advisable to cover any scratches that may occur over time. The benefit of using Impranol Oils is that it is a very simple process of re-applying the finish to the affected area with a cloth.

Wooden Product Finishing

Our products are supplied fit for purpose and unfinished (unless a pre-finished door has been ordered). As oak is a natural product, sanding and treating maybe required to achieve the perfect finish. If you have not ordered a pre-finished/treated door then we recommend that quality hardwax oils such as TreatexOsmo, or Sikkens Polyurethane Varnish are used to seal and protect the goods and to validate your warranty.

For doors to acclimatise, they should be left in the house prior to installation for at least seven days with the ambient temperature gradually increased over this period.

All of our doors must be treated before they are hung, not afterwards. It is vitally important not to miss areas where the door has been cut for hinges or any other door furniture as this would allow for moisture to get into the door and spread throughout it.

Applying a stain prior to treating is known to highlight the areas where glue may have spread to the face of the door during manufacturing, particulary where veneers meet. This cannot be claimed for under warranty. A clear, hardwax oil is what should be used. If you would like to apply a stain to a door to acheive a particular finish, we would recommend purchasing a solid oak door instead.

It is always advisable to cover any scratches that may occur over time. The benefit of using hardwax oil is that this is a very simple process of re-applying the finish to the affected area with a cloth.

If you do decide to paint an unfinished oak veneer door then to comply with the door's warranty it must have an undercoat/primer and top coat which is solvent based, not water based.

Storage - Flat and Dry Only

As wood is a natural product it is important that it is stored correctly. We recommend that your new products are stored flat and in a dry area. We recommend that all packaging is kept on the products, or removed for inspection and then re applied for storage. Again as wood is a natural product it is susceptible to changes in each room's atmosphere and as such please be mindful of this and take care to avoid damp areas or newly plastered rooms etc.

Installation

This door must be fitted with a minimum of 3 hinges. This is due to the weight of the product, which can be attributed to the high grade materials used in the construction of the door. Choosing to ignore this requirement will void your warranty.
