Maintenance

Fire Doors

As our fire doors are supplied to you pre-sanded and ready to be finished, you have the opportunity to treat them before fitting. Once your fire door has been treated and fitted, the on-going maintenance will be minimal. As the door is there for the purpose of safety you should check it regularly to make sure that it still opens and closes properly.

The gaps between the door frame and the door itself should be checked on a regular basis. If you have fitted a fire door to comply with building regulations, it is extremely important that these gaps do not increase in size to the point where they surpass the allowed maximum. Although this is rare, it can sometimes occur on a new home where the house is still settling and the various pressures on the door frame cause it to alter slightly.

Other than regularly checking gaps we advise people to cover up scratches with treatment so that the door is always protected. By using a hardwax oil, any scratches can quickly and easily be covered up.

Storage - Flat and Dry Only

As wood is a natural product it is important that it is stored correctly. We recommend that your new products are stored flat and in a dry area. We recommend that all packaging is kept on the products, or removed for inspection and then re applied for storage. Again as wood is a natural product it is susceptible to changes in each room's atmosphere and as such please be mindful of this and take care to avoid damp areas or newly plastered rooms etc.

Wooden Product Finishing

Engineered products (doors and selected skirting and architrave) are simple to finish, as they are machine finished it is unlikely that any further finishing will be required prior to applying your choice of oil or lacquer. As much as modern glues are very strong and resilient we do recommend that you always try a test patch first to ensure you have the right colour. Once your choosen finish has been applied generally very little maintenance is required, it is always advisable to cover any scratches that may be picked up over the years, luckily if you have used a hardwax oil this is a very simple process of re applying the finish with a cloth to the affected area, it is very simple.

Review by Mr Goodwin
You can buy cheaper doors but the feel and look of this door is real quality - February 12
To meet the building regs I needed this Mexicano style door made as a fire door. It was to fit between my kitchen and the adjoining garage. During ordering on line my PC had problems and I ended up creating two orders in error. No problem, even though it was Sunday a call to the registered sales line was answered and a promise that all would be sorted out. Which it was. Great service. The door itself was very heavy and well made. My carpenter was very impressed with the quality. I recommend the Treatex oil for finishing the door this went on easily. After the first coat was dry I rubbed down again with a light sandpaper. When the second coat was dry the door looked just like a piece of furniture.
