In order to protect your solid oak doors and keep them in excellent shape, they will need to be treated with a suitable door oil or wax. We supply a range of door oils suitable for use with both internal oak doors and external oak doors.
For your internal doors, having tried and tested many different products, we recommend the Treatex hardwax oil. Choose between a clear matt finish or a light, medium or dark oak if you wish to change the natural colour of the oak.
Applying a clear matt finish to your solid oak doors will really bring out and enhance the natural beauty of the wood. Door oil or wax must always be applied as our solid oak doors are provided unfinished (unless you specifiy that you want them oiled prior to delivery). By treating your oak doors with a hardwax oil you will ensure that the moisture is locked out, otherwise there would be movement in the wood.
Traditionally many people have used Danish oils to treat their doors. However, we find that Danish oils are typically too thin and don't sufficiently prevent moisture transfer between the door and the air.
For treating external oak doors we typically recommend Impranol door oils. Specifically designed to protect against tough outdoor conditions, the Impranol door oil has extended UV resistance and will keep external oak doors well protected for a number of years. |
